Student Health Insurance

Washington University in St. Louis is pleased to offer an Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan underwritten by United Healthcare Insurance Company. This plan will go into effect 8/1/2020 and end 7/31/2021.

All enrolled domestic degree-seeking undergraduate students in the day program and full-time graduate students on the Danforth Campus are automatically enrolled in the basic student health insurance plan unless proof of comparable coverage is provided.

All international students are required to participate in the basic plan on a mandatory basis unless there is proof of U.S. insurance through a U.S. employer via an employee parent or spouse/partner.

If you have any questions regarding student insurance, please email studentinsurance@wustl.edu or visit students.wustl.edu/student-health-insurance-plan-information.

Costs

For 2020-2021, WashU student health insurance costs $1,942 per year. Payment for the Student Health Plan will be added to student accounts. Payments for additional coverage will be made to United Healthcare directly, not to Washington University.

Waivers

All full-time, degree-seeking students on the Danforth Campus are required to have health insurance. Students may waive out of the plan if they can provide proof of adequate coverage. Students on an F-1 or J-1 visa are not allowed to waive out of the plan unless they are on a U.S.-based employer plan through a U.S.-based insurance company.

Sam Fox School students who wish to waive out of coverage, or enroll eligible dependents, must do so prior to September 5, 2020. Full details are available here.
