The scholarship program has been a Washington University tradition since 1872, and its importance has never been more vital. In the last fiscal year, donors generously gave $2.3 million for scholarships in the Sam Fox School. We now have a total of 198 named scholarships supporting an incredible range of students across all of our programs.
For many of those students, scholarships have paved the way to pursue dreams that may not otherwise have been feasible. Below you can read some of the stories of students who have been helped by scholarship support, as well as alumni and friends of the Sam Fox School who have committed themselves to providing that support.
Georgia Binnington Scholarship Challenge
Georgia Binnington graduated from WashU in 1963 with her undergraduate degree from Arts & Sciences and returned to campus in 1988 as an admissions counselor. She moved on to serve as the associate dean for the College of Art and then for the Sam Fox School, when the School was named in 2006. Georgia has made an immeasurable impact on the lives of countless young artists, architects and designers—and continues to do so today!
Anabeth and John Weil recently established an endowed scholarship in honor of Georgia, celebrating her devotion to students and educational access. To build on this incredible gift, the Georgia Binnington Scholarship Challenge invites you to make an annual fund scholarship gift in any amount in Georgia’s honor—or in honor of a faculty or staff member who made an impact on your career at WashU. Scholarship Spotlight: Sam Fox Ambassadors

Since its founding in 2006, the Sam Fox School has established a national reputation for addressing critical social and environmental challenges. Innovative programs, curricula and collaborative initiatives have driven substantial growth in graduate enrollment and in the School’s campus footprint—both of which have roughly doubled in size. Now the School is launching a new scholarship program designed to enhance recruitment and interdisciplinary exchange across its graduate degree programs.
The Sam Fox Ambassadors Graduate Fellowship Program, which will welcome its inaugural class in fall 2020, will provide full-tuition waivers and accompanying travel stipends, as well as unique academic and professional opportunities, for 10 applicants each year, across the following graduate degree programs: Master of Architecture, Master of Fine Arts in Illustration & Visual Culture, Master of Fine Arts in Visual Art, Master of Landscape Architecture, and Master of Urban Design. The program was founded by and named in honor of the Honorable Sam Fox, BSBA51, and is supported by the Sam and Marilyn Fox Foundation. “Over the last two decades, Sam and his wife, Marilyn, have made extraordinary commitments to undergraduate scholarships,” said Carmon Colangelo, the Ralph J. Nagel Dean of the Sam Fox School. “They are now building on that generosity with a major gift to strengthen graduate recruitment. The Ambassadors program will support top art and architecture students from across the United States while also enabling us to expand international recruitment efforts. Learn more>>
